Decommissioning and R22 Phase Out
Back in 2007 I started ProtoCool. I was self-employed and I sub-contracted work from national companies on major projects including Vodafone RBS sites and Boots the Chemist refurbishments.
This was a great experience for ProtoCool. We worked with some of Britain’s leading companies on their R22 Phase Out Projects.
This work was all in direct response to the forthcoming restriction of the use of R22
R-22 is a powerful greenhouse gas with a global warming potential that is 1810 (which indicates 1810 times as powerful as carbon dioxide)
The Montreal Protocol
The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances believed to be responsible for ozone depletion. It is believed that if the international agreement is adhered to, the ozone layer is expected to recover by 2050.
Due to its widespread adoption and implementation it has been hailed as an example of exceptional international co-operation, with Kofi Annan quoted as saying that “perhaps the single most successful international agreement to date has been the Montreal Protocol”
When R22 refrigerant (hydro chlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) was and still is very common in the UK.
R22 Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems are still in the work place across the country.
Word just is not getting out that The Government have in place legal procedures to take action against companies NOT adhering to this act.

From 1st January 2015 it will be illegal to use any HCFCs to service RAC equipment – so
recycled or reclaimed HCFC may no longer be used.
This has huge implications for major HVAC systems using R22.
We are working closely with Daikin and Climate Centre to keep the company up to date and trained on specific R22 replacement products.
We have now decommissioned 100’s of systems across the country for ourselves. We are registered with Environment Agency, REFCOM, F- GAS Compliant, Institute of Refrigeration and have more trade Memberships pending.
We are committed to being at the forefront of our industry and compliant with all recommendation and regulations surrounding the control of substances involved in our industry.
Decommissioning is just the start of the process. We now have the infrastructure to deliver premium installations using premium systems .
