We live in an all electric house and when we moved in we had a rather ancient night storage heater system - which was very in-efficient so we were looking at a better way of heating the house.
We didn’t have a central heating system installed, so no radiators, and we couldn’t get an air-source or ground-source heat pump. So we looked at various options and the one that came to mind was an air-to-air heat pump, which is also an air conditioning system.
So we looked at that and the name ProtoCool came up, and we were very impressed with the gentleman that came out and spoke to us, and so we signed up for it, and the ProtoCool engineers were excellent. They were efficient, they left the place very clean and tidy and now we have a very efficient, and cheaper heating system which will also give us air conditioning in the Summer.
We didn’t so much look at air conditioning, what we needed was a heating system that was better than the night storage heating systems that we had. It just so happens that air conditioning is something that was an added extra. So not only do we have a nice heating system, but something that improves the quality of the air in the house.
We’ve been very pleased with the way the system has worked so far. The nice thing about it is that you don’t have to have it on all the time. You run it until it heats the room up, and then it keeps to a steady temperature. The one that we keep on most of the time is the one in the hall, which heats a large part of the ground-floor. In the evening when we sit in the lounge we have the heating on in there, and at night-time we just have the heater on in the bedroom, enough to warm it up, and then we switch it off when we go to sleep.
We were very impressed with the gentleman and Steve that came out and showed us all the options that were available to us. The team when they arrived were very helpful, they were considerate, they were highly efficient, and they would not leave until everything was perfect.
There was a problem with one of the heating units that was making a slight noise, so it was arranged for a replacement to be brought along, at no additional expense to us.
Since then, we’ve had a lovely warm house, and we seem to be using a lot less electricity, which is nice.
